This is a question that haunts the best of us, what is our purpose, why did we even take birth? This is what Zom 100 helps us with by showing us different perspectives od what people do when life is not a guarantee.

We follow Akira Tendo, initially a production assistant at an exploitative firm, through a zombie apocalype. He has set out to complete his list of the dead, or 100 things to do before becoming a zombie, after realizing that he is finally free to do whatever he wants. We watch him turn from a zombie to a human when the world around him is becoming the opposite. Let's go one by one, exploring each character from akira's crew, understanding what their take on life is.

Miss Risk Analyst

Shizuka Mikazaki, aka Risk Analyst, is the prime example of what a person turns into when they follow all of society's rules and become a model citizen. This is a person who calculates the benefits and costs associated with every action and lives the most "optimized" life. However, this makes them unappreciative and calculating, after which they quickly distance themselves from others. Zom100 is very quick to highlight that these people come to regret this very soon. In the episode we are introduced to Shizuka, we see that she regrets not picking up the sweets from the convenience store, and is jealous of Akira who seems to be enjoying the simple pleasures of life even in a zombie apocalype. As the series progresses, we see her evolve and care more about others as she becomes a doctor in Akira's village and helps save the old people instead of just caring about herself.

The Comedian

Akira's college friend, Kencho, has a much simpler purpose, to cheer people up, even if at his own expense. He has always posed as someone who doesn't care about working and even boasts to Akira about how easy and fun his life is. It is later revealed that he was just saying it to feel better, but as the apocalypse starts we see him dedicating himself into giving people hope and happiness in these stressful times.

The Superhero

Finally, Let's talk about our protagonist Akira. He is a template on how someone should go about their days in this world. Akira sets clear goals and goes out to accomplish them no matter how unachievable he seems. Some of them are childish, like becoming a superhero, or going out on a date with a flight attendant or playing games with a buddy on the big screen but he still goes and completes them all. I believe we should all take inspiration from this and set out goals and try our best to accomplish them. This will not only make us better people but also help us connect with others as most tasks in this world are much easier when we have help from our friends.

Conclusion

I highly recommend watching Zom 100 if you feel like you are in a rut and are unable to figure out what to do with your life, if nothing else you might just pick up some fun ideas for your own bucket list!
